We strive to produce a complete hunting companion based on the dog’s natural ability.
Lady Oak believes in "positive reinforcement training" and allows your dog to mature and grow into their skill level. As with our Obedience and Puppy Head Start programs; we will never push a dog faster than it is ready to learn just to produce quicker results. We do not believe that makes for a loyal hunting companion.
Our training methods start with a strong foundation. Obedience skills are at the forefront. As your dog progresses we will weave in drills that bring out your dog's guide us to determine your dog's skill level, and what he/she is capable of.
BASIC GUN DOG
START SPARKING YOUR DOGS DESIRE TO LOCATE AND RETRIEVE
Our Basic Gun Dog Training program teaches your dog the basics of retriever training and includes the Basic Obedience Program and force fetching. You will want to start this training between eight and twelve weeks.
An introduction to gunshots, decoys, duck calls, blinds, and 4-wheelers during this stage of training while being highly socialized around other dogs. Hand signals are taught during this time, in the event, you would like additional field training in the future.
You can expect your dog to be obedient at home and in the field and be able to perform simple marks on both land and water.
Basic Gun Dog Training Includes:
Basic Obedience Training
Force Fetching/Hold / Bird to Hand
Steadiness to Gunshot
Whistle Commands with Basic Handling Drills
Single Land and Water Marks
Exposure to Birds; live flyers, ducks, cripples as well as dummy and Collar Conditioning
This is a 4 Month Min Program
INTERMEDIATE GUN DOG
ADVANCED TRAINING FOR YOUR
HUNTING DOG
Our Intermediate Gun Dog Training program will advance the skills your dog acquired during basic training. Complex and advanced drills are used to teach your dog the skills of running blind retrieves in the water and on land. An introduction to difficult marking scenarios will be part of this training. We take what your dog learned in Basic Gun Dog Training and add Blind Work, which means they will be able to pick up a bird they did not see fall, up to 200 yards away, and pick up multiple marks at various distances up to 100 yards.
Our Intermediate Gun Dog Program Includes:

This is a 2 - 4 Month Additional Program after completion of the Basic program

ADVANCED GUN DOG
MUST HAVE COMPLETED BASIC AND INTERMEDIATE
Our Advanced Gun Dog Training will further your retriever’s skills in advanced commands and understanding those commands. Please note that all dogs must have completed our Basic and Intermediate Gun Dog Training Programs or demonstrate appropriate skill proficiency. At the end of this program, your dog will have the skills needed to be an advanced retriever in the field. You can expect your dog to do complex blind retrieves as well as multiple marks at extreme distances while showing steadiness and multiple mark memory. The goal is to obtain the ultimate hunting companion, with your dog picking up 3-4 marks in heavy cover under different conditions and over many decoys. Your dog will also be able to run 250-300 yard blind retrieves with pinpoint accuracy
Advanced Gun Dog Training Includes:
Multiple Blinds / Marks Combined with Blinds
Triple and Quadruple Marks on Land and Water along with the ability to navigate through multiple terrains
Runoff Dog Stands, Boats, and Dog Blinds
This is a 3- 4 Month Additional Program, after compiling both Lady Oak's basic and intermediate programs

Please complete our Lady Oak Training Contract and bring it with you when you drop your dog off for training.
GUN DOG REFRESHER
We offer Tune-Ups for dogs who have completed the Lady Oak Gun Dog Program, to help them get into shape for the upcoming season.
A Tune-Up program is a great way to get your dog back into shape and to get that nose working again.
